The cargo plane, IL-76T, occupies a special place in the family of glorious aircraft produced by stages according to the long-term programme for designing wide-bodied airliners. The plane’s designation prompted the choice of its optimal forms: the fuselage is sloping in its tail part which makes handling operations more convenient. It rests in the air on the so-called sagging wings with powerful twin engines each. Tests proved not only the accuracy of concrete desigh calculations, but also the promising future for further experiments. A brilliant example is IL-86, the firstling of the Soviet wide-bodied jet liners. 2. IL-76T appeared on the Aeroflot routes in 1977. Thanks to its high cargo-lifting capacity (up to 40 tons), IL-76T largely intensified the cargo turnover on the most important projects of the national economy. 3. Building materials, pipes, the equipment for drilling installations, tractors, cars, consumer goods, metalwork, machine-tools and foodstuffs – all these are delivered with guaranteed safety and always on time on board IL-76T to the places where the cargo can reach only by air. Indifference to takeoff-landing conditions, highly mechanized on-board handling equipment (the plane has four electric hoists with the cargo-lifting capacity of 2,500 kilograms each and two electric hoists, LPG-3000 A, with the handling capacity of 3,000 kilograms each) have made IL-76T indispensable in hard-to-access and remote parts of the country.
