Вступление:During last centuries, the role of the press as Fourth Estate and as a forum for public discussion and debate has been recognized. Today, despite the mass media’s propensity for sleaze, sensationalism and superficiality, the notion of the media as watchdog, as guardian of the public interest, and as a conduit between governors and the governed remains deeply ingrained. Therefore, chosen topic “The Role of a Journalist in Modern Social life” is actual. The aim of work is to analyze the influence of journalism on modern social life and to describe concrete examples of influence of a person of journalist on society. The object of research is journalism as a social phenomenon. The subject of research is a person of journalist in its influence on society. To achieve the aim we have defined such tasks: 1. To single out the issue of the role of journalism in society. 2. To give general characteristic of journalism as a social phenomenon. 3. To introduce examples of influence of a person of journalist on society. Research methods: the analysis of scientific and journalistic literature, synthesis, comparison, generalization, translation. The research structure: the work contains introduction, main text, conclusions, appendix and bibliography. The work consists of 10 pages of printed text and one appendix. The list of literature includes 6 sources.  

Выводы:The importance of journalism in modern society has been testified by permanent interest to this profession. During their work: communication, collection information, creating support, collecting opinion, challenging people, consulting or connecting with others, building communities, finding information, collecting feedback, deciding if there is a story to dig out, etc, journalists are changing modern social life. People always want to know news and tendencies in the world. At the same time, media can change some facts, deform the truth in way that is beneficial for some people. That’s why media are often called “the fourth estate”. Manipulating public opinion, journalists has a great influence on society and, as a consequence, on history course. That is why every journalist which is involved in activity of media, can be considered as a part of one global mechanism that rules the life on our planet. There might occur some dangerous conflicts during such active work, so real journalist is a brave human, who must be always ready to bring some victims. In different countries in different times, there are sign personalities, which activity has changed the world. Some of them are: Oprah Winfrey, Joseph Pulitzer, Robert Capa, Vladimir Gilyarovsky, Egon Erwin Kish, Bob Woodward, Anatoly Agranovsky, Hunter Thompson, Julian Assange.
