Вступление:For the seventh year in a row, the world is watching the unfolding of one of the most unusual conflicts in human history – the hybrid war of the Russian Federation against an independent state – Ukraine. In 2014, after the seizure of some Ukrainian cities by separatists, the Anti-Terrorist Operation was announced (Decree of the President of Ukraine On the Decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, 2014), which later escalated into a hot war, which is called undeclared, hybrid in Ukraine, in Russia – civil, and international experts prefer the term "military conflict". The Dignity Revolution and the war against Russian aggression became the central events in the recent history not only of Ukraine, but also of Europe and the whole world. According to the latest data from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, about 41-44 thousand people became victims of the military conflict during the entire period of the conflict (The sixth anniversary of the beginning of anti-terrorist operation: figures and facts, 2020). The list of dead also included 298 passengers and the crew of the Boeing flight MH17, which was shot down by a Russian Buk missile on July 17, 2014. The conflict in Eastern Ukraine is not a spontaneous phenomenon that arose without any reason. As history shows, no one – neither individuals, nor political forces, nor nations and countries – can completely avoid mistakes. In their recent history, Ukrainians have repeatedly made mistakes that have resulted in negative events. So isn't it better to avoid future mistakes by mentioning old mistakes and their consequences? The study analyzes the events of the beginning of this decade, namely: the development of the socio-political situation in Ukraine during Yanukovych`s presidency, which could be the cause or impetus for the annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine. Yanukovych's presidency is history. However, public legitimacy and its limits will always be the focus of any leader in Ukraine – whether current or future. Thus, the purpose of the study is to reveal the main characteristics of the regime of the fourth President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych as those that led to the end of his board. To achieve this goal it is necessary to perform the following tasks: ? to investigate and characterize the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych; ? to reveal the main reasons for the beginning of the Dignity Revolution in Ukraine in 2013-2014; ? to state the consequences of the change of state power in Ukraine in 2014.
